Blog from the crypt
This year Corrosion will be at the Alhambra Theatre 56 Marine Road West, Morecambe.
LA4 4EU Although the Staff at The Exchange were great not everyone liked the venue we lost a number of regulars. After talking to customers that were no longer attending as well as toughs still going to Corrosion, the general opinion appears to be although it is a good venue with good staff it had a problem with neighbours complaining about the volume of the music forcing us to lower the volume and it was too bright! So this year we will be just a short walk to the end of the road at the Alhambra Theatre on the sea front. We can have the music up load and we can make the space we will be using dark. So I am quite looking forward to Corrosion in 2019.

After all the turmoil the Winter Gardens "Trust" have caused us I am feeling quite happy they did it.
We now hold Corrosion upstairs at the Exchange on Regent road. They welcomed us with open arms and we get the feeling they are happy we are there. The Room we are in is better than what we had at the Winter Gardens it is dust free, has a sprung dance floor a bar in the room, better toilet facilities, a large outside seating area for the smokers and best of all it is warm. Also on the plus side the drink is cheaper, bargain! Being forced out of the Winter Gardens by ungrateful people in the trust with questionable motives was the best thing that could happen to us! Glad to be out of there before it all goes pear shaped through bad management, well that's just my opinion, yes I am a bit bitter and twisted. ;) So we have had our first Corrosion in The Exchange and we got lots of good feed back I think everyone liked the new venue I did not hear anyone say they did not. So what next? Well we have Auger on the 5th of May you can find links on hear for tickets, apart from that we have most first Saturdays penciled in for the rest of the year. We did not want to have it all set in stone before we knew if the venue would work. New dates coming soon. I am sad to inform you all that we have to cancel the 3rd February's Corrosion. This is due to a drastic increase to how much we need to pay to use the venue and the Winter Gardens Preservation Trust insisting we provide 2 SIA qualified security. To break even we would have to charge more than double what most people would pay to get into a similar event in this area. This would leave no funds to put back into Corrosion to use for basic advertising or put towards growing the event. To make any profit to invest back into Corrosion we would have to charge a ridiculous entry fee. So we have had to make the very sad decision to cancel Corrosion this February. We are still in talks with the Winter Gardens Preservation Trust and hope we can come to an arrangement that benefits both parties. But at this time we are to close to the intended date to be messing about making people wait for an uncertain outcome with people not knowing if it is worth booking things like babysitters, transport and accommodation for an event that may or may not be on.
We hope Corrosion stays at the Winter Gardens even thought the Crypt is a very basic room with no heating and only 6 electrical sockets in one corner, in need of much thoughtful restoration that will not detract from its atmosphere. We love the venue but we do not like the proposed price tag! You would think in October we would be having a Halloween Corrosion wouldn't you? Well we would love to, but as the organisers of Whitby Dracula weekend have not taken Halloween this year Whitby Goth Weekend have jumped on the opportunity to have that weekend. We know we would be empty if we had Corrosion on the same weekend as wgw so we let the last weekend in October go.
On to the 4th of November the first Saturday of November and so close to Halloween it would be rude not to have a Halloween Corrosion, and that’s what we are going to do. So get out your fangs and your broomsticks and celebrate your favourite pagan festival with us in the haunted Winter Gardens. Not only are we having our regular DJs celebrating Halloween we are very excited to be having our first live performance. We are very excited to be presenting Auger a fantastic new bad that are making a big noise and getting noticed not just in Lancashire but also in Germany and America. Before they had even released their debut album entitled ‘The Awakening’ on Rebco Records on the 29th of September, they were on the latest Gothic Music Orgy compilation album released by German label DarkTunes Music Group earlier in September. They have been noticed across the pond and played on American internet radio station Communion After Dark. Check them out here http://www.auger.band/ or on facebook https://www.facebook.com/AugerUK/ So November the 4th is going to be one awesome Halloween! One miner snag with November is we don’t know how many are coming to Corrosion. Unfortunately when we started advertising this event we had no ticket selling facility so most people know you can pay on the door. This is not a problem in it’s self but it dose not tell us how many people to expect. If we could say we were going to have more people than can fit in the crypt we would go out into the main auditorium and set up the best PA for the band on the main stage otherwise we would put the best PA in the Crypt. So with that said if you are planning on going could you please let us know by going to the facebook event https://goo.gl/cNNCrs and click the going button. Or you could just leave a comment here. Well that’s about it for now, looking forward to seeing you at Corrosion. Alex Modfest was great fun to work on but now it is time to give Corrosion our full attention. We will still be playing all the great tunes you love but we will slip a few pirate themed songs in to give the night a nautical feel, yarrr. The photo booth shall be making a return so you can capture you pirate look for posterity and so you can pull funny faces at it and no one will tell you off, because we are pirates yarrr.
Now American Idiot is over and I have more time on my hands I will be getting back to promoting Corrosion to help make it a success. As you may know I have some discounts agreed for Bed and Breakfast from 3 of the local hotels, next I will be approaching Guest Houses to see if they can help with some discounts or offers. So keep an eye on our Where to stay page.
At Corrosion on the 13th of May not only do we have lots of silly freebies to give away we also have a musical shaun the sheep to give away. We are still pondering how to give him away so everyone has a chance. We were thinking of a free raffle but that would mean a DJ would have to talk over PA and we don’t like talking over PA when we have so much music to squeeze into the night. That's all for now. What a fantastic first night so many people came and danced all night. We had so many song requests and I think we must have played more requests than set list. Sorry if we did not manage to get round to any ones request but we had so many to sort through one or two might have got lost in the pile.
We have had some great feed back so we could not be happier. We did notice the can bar in The Crypt was not used much and people were happy using the Parisian bar so we will take that out and replace it with tables and chairs. Looking forward to the next one. Have been so busy I have not had time to post here. So what has been going on at the venu? Well we have had Seaside specialised Charity Ska gig and the warm up party for that in "The Crypt" and tried one lay out for that. This weekend we have Skaville another Ska night, and we are trying out a new layout that has more seating and more room to dance. For the first Corrosion we will be sorting out some new visual effects. We may change the room around again to maximise room for dancing depending on feed back from this weekends Ska night.
Not a lot been going on in the Crypt last week I was out with flyers for a couple of days. Did some painting and plan to finish off painting iron work this week then let the shop dresser take over as I move on to looking at the technical side of things. I will mostly be looking at the lighting and PA from now on.
This week I have been stripping old plaster off of one of the walls in the Crypt. A lot of the plaster was just falling off but some was still in good condition and was not so easy to move. Had some music blasting out of a couple of little Pulse active speakers, to keep me inspired, some trad tunes some cyber and Industrial.
Painted a test patch on one of the walls with a bit of mat black that was left over from a previous job and it looks fab. Away from the venue I have been catching up with Communion After Dark on You Tube looking for new Dark Electro, Industrial, EBM, Gothic, Synthpop and Cyber, and consequently I pre ordered BlutEngle’s new album Leitbild that will be released in February. Well that’s all for this week. Alex. |
